IIS SaaS solution – Self Hosted or Cloud Hosted ?
Advice Needed
I’m building a SaaS solution which requires Microsoft IIS web host with SQL server back end. Not a lot of traffic.

What are your thoughts on hosting this myself on my own servers, vs hosting it with one of the cloud providers (Azure, AWS, Google)?

I’ll be honest, my bias has been toward self hosting because I already have most of the infrastructure setup. My servers are in a proper data center with redundant power and internet. They are backed up. They are behind a firewall appliance.

But I have some people telling me “cloud is way better”. Aside from the obvious, I won’t have to worry about hardware issues anymore, why would I put this in the cloud? It appears to be much more expensive in the long run. Or am I wrong? I’m looking for advice from people who have done both.

Hi, the regular droplet 2 CPU 2gb ram costs $18 and intel/AMD premium costs $21.

Which is better Intel or AMD, performance wise? And is their significant improvement over Regular droplets.

Will be hosting WordPress.

Starting WordPress websites for clients, affordable?
Advice Needed
Hi,

So for myself, rule 1 is the customer will be purchasing the domain and hosting directly. That being said, where is the best place to send them? Are there good affordable options? Affiliate links so I get commission and they get a deal? Will be small businesses.

And for myself to have a portfolio website. What host should I use? (in NA)

I see a lot of different suggestions such as hostgator and siteground for myself, but just looking for Reddit’s opinion on the matter.

wordpress hosting on vps – what kind of security will I need to implement outside of wordpress itself?
Advice Needed
I am thinking of moving 3 wordpress sites to a VPS, perhaps digitalocean. Beyond cloudflare, the plugin Wordfence, SSL, good passwords and 2 factor authentication, will there be extra steps I will need to take for security because it is a VPS? My worry is that, because of my inexperience, I’ll miss something I should be doing.

Would using a service like [the Cloud one that can’t be named in the body text on this subreddit] be an advantage for someone not overly experienced on the technical side? Or would I just be paying money for things I can do myself?

Edit: I started on another sub asking for hosting recommendations (lost patience with bluehost and won’t be waiting out my pre-paid time). Someone there sent me on the VPS journey but I’m worried I’m not tech savvy enough to keep it safe. So now I’m back to thinking about your 3 sidebar hosting recommendations.

Has anyone used GreenGeeks VPS for hosting their domain and website? Specifically the Virtual Private Server? How was your experience? What level of difficulty was it to set up?

I have never done reserved, “dedicated”, hosting – do you just get a vm given to you and you have to install your website builder and all that onto it?

Dreamhost Shared Hosting with free Domain
Advice Needed
I subscribed to Dreamhost shared hosting plan with a free domain last year.

I was not satisfied with the service due to frequent downtime and website being inaccessible in my region for some dns related issues(persisted for month or so).

I want to stop auto renewal for the service so that i can’t be billed for 2nd year.

Apparently if i close the account in first year i have to pay $15 for free domain i got with plan. I don’t want to keep either hosting or domain and be just done with it.

So is there any way to stop autorenewal of hosting so that i can close it without getting charged further?

I saw option to stop autorenewal of the domain and i did so but it is the stopping autorenewal of the hosting i am looking for
